Philadelphia 76ers Champs (+850)
Not many people were picking the Philadelphia 76ers to be successful when projecting the 2024/25 season, but now Paul George is set to arrive in Philly and people are re-evaluating their picks.
The 76ers are an intriguing team with a strong two-way center and two top-notch shot creators in the backcourt. However, the biggest question mark—like always—is their health. Joel Embiid’s injury concerns have been a constant throughout his career, and now George is in the mix too; he played 74 games last season, which is his highest since 2018-19. Keeping everyone healthy will be key for this squad. Paul George is now coming in at 34 and he has been logging heavy minutes his entire career, and it may be that this is his final chance at going hard to win a championship.
Buddy Hield, Robert Covington and Paul Reed give the roster some good depth too and if everything breaks right for the 76ers, this team clearly has the roster talent to make a deep run in the East and even win it all.
Tyrese Maxey Over 25.1 Points Per Game
(-115)
So, obviously everyone is hyped up because the Sixers have done a incredible job in free agency and grabbed some studs to juice up this squad. And of course the new faces are worth noting, but there is no way anyone should forget about the first-time All-Star and last year’s Most Improved Player Award winner: Tyrese Maxey, who is in my opinion the face and rising start of this Philly Team!
At 23 years old, Maxey has taken significant strides forward each season in the NBA. Last season, Maxey averaged 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game.
The goal is to have a fully healthy playoff run and the pathway toward this is for both aging stars with injury history to have plenty of rest. Expect Maxey to be the beneficiary of these opportunities and to be depended on him for scoring on regular basis. We can count on Maxey to at least match last year’s output of 25.9 points per game and clear this season-long average.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 6.4 Assists Per Game
(+110 )
Finally, let’s take a bit of a leap and predict that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will boost his assist numbers again. After a dip to 5.5 assists per game in 2022-23 (even though he finished fifth in MVP voting), he upped it to a career-high 6.2 assists last year and came in second for the end-of-season vote!
I truly believe that SGA should have a great season! He is still a star guard who is leading the third-best offense in the league, and this OKC offense should be even stronger this season.
The Knicks had a solid 61.2% assist rate with Hartenstein on the floor, up from 59% when he wasn’t playing. Jalen Brunson’s assist rate also improved from 30.58% to 32.57% with Hartenstein. His skills in the pick-and-roll should bring an exciting boost to this already strong Thunder offense and help Gilgeous-Alexander rack up some easy assists!
This is an excellent offense that is only growing stronger with each month its young lineup gains more experience, and I think big things are coming in several stat columns for SGA. The OKC season of greatness is on the way and I will be cheering this team on all the way to the championship very very soon!
Reed Sheppard NBA
Rookie of the Year
(+650)
If your a College Hoops follower then you have atleast heard Reed Sheppards name in the past couple years! He is a stud straight out of the great Kentucky program! Sheppard put on a show during Summer League and he really caught people’s attention, it’s a small sample size from a professional perspective but either way I like him a lot this season!
We know that he will most certainly compete for bench guard minutes on this young Houston team. I personally think he will have no problem showing his worth and making people believe he is the real deal! I truly believe Sheppard was one of the more complete players in the draft, even though he’s going to be in a battle for playing time.
Still, I wouldn’t be shocked if FVV misses a few games (65, 69 and 73 games played the last three seasons), and Sheppard is a strong defender (averaged 2.5 steals per game in his lone college season), which should spark Ime Udoka attention! Bottom line is Sheppard was a great shooter at Kentucky (Sheppard shot 52.1 percent from 3), he 100% has the tools to win this award if he gets the playing time!
